John Edward “Skip” Bayless II, also known as Skip Bayless, is an American sports columnist, commentator, author, and television personality. He is best known for his work as a commentator on the ESPN2 show First Take.

After he left the First Take show in June 2016, Bayless started his new show Skip and Shannon: Undisputed with Shannon Sharpe on fox sports 1 on September 6, 2016. Besides as a Journalist, skip is also into acting and hosted shows on radio channels too. Bayless is also a well-known writer. Skip is American by nationality.

Skip Bayless was born on December 4th, 1951 in Oklahoma City, USA. His father John Bayless and mother Levita Bayless owned the Hickory House restaurant in Oklahoma City, which was specialized in Barbecue. As a youth, Skip used to work over in the restaurant, but he was not interested in his family business.

Bayless younger brother Rick Bayless was the one in his family, who carried on the family business and became a chef, restaurateur, and television personality.

His father began calling him “skip” and the name suddenly stuck to his mind, then he eventually had his name legally changed to Skip.

At an early age, Skip developed his interest in sports. He used o play baseball and basketball in his school days. Bayless was also the salutatorian of Northwest Classen’s graduating class of 1970. Skip was a member of the National Honor Society for two years and president of the school’s Fellowship of Christian Athletes chapter.

Bayless was also an officer in the letterman’s club. He became the primary sports columnist for the school newspaper in his junior and senior years. Skip represented Northwest Classen at Oklahoma Boys State.

He was a member of the Phi Kappa Sigma fraternity, served for two years as the chapter’s sports director. Bayless was also the sports editor of The hustler, the university’s student newspaper, and had spent the summer of 1969 under interning under sports editor Frank Boggs at The Daily Oklahoman.

Skip had done commentary in 1999 and 2000 for the Golf Channel from the major golf championships. In 2001, he appeared regularly on Jim Rome’s show on Fox Sports Net, The Lat Word. Bayless has also appeared in a weekly Sunday morning SportsCenter debate segment with Stephen A. Smith in “Old School/Nu Skool”.
